Lake Michigan Home, Stevensville, Michigan
Builder: Mike Zebell, Three Oaks, Michigan
Design Challenge: Create a weekend home perched on a high bluff parcel
with main views of Lake Michigan and secondary views of the dunes and woods surrounding the site. Obtain State of
Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Critical Dunes approval for construction.
Design Program: The unique footprint of this home was developed to
meet the stringent State of Michigan Critical Dunes requirements. Site access is from one point only. Client desired
an open plan with entertaining spaces including a pool table.
Design Solution: The circular stair at the main entry provided the
basis for the design by allowing access to all four levels. The entry landing and garage met the required entry grade
while the lower level was set down a partial story to meet the bluff grade towards Lake Michigan. The pool table was
set on the lower level with a two story ceiling to connect to the main level entertainment area. All bedrooms are suite
style for guest convenience.
Client Response: This was the second lakefront home designed for
this client. The final design incorporated all of the features they desired including a screen porch and back garden area.
Views of Lake Michigan are spectacular from almost every room in the house.
